The Latest News

• The Arboretum is host to the SUNY Geneseo Campus Community Garden. For more information please check out the Geneseo Food Project website.
• The Arboretum will host the SUNY Genseo Community Garden - stay tuned!
• Mark Chynoweth (summer horticultural assistant 2004) has been working on a variety of projects, including clearing around the big trees and helping install our new wildflower meadow.
• The Roemer Arboretum Wildflower Meadow, conceived by Peter Ott and implemented through the collaboration of the Roemer Arboretum and the Geneseo Garden Club, is the latest addition to our collections. It'll be seeded this (2004) fall. Please check it out!
• Diana Martini helped create our new Woody Species guide and our new Entrance Garden guide.
• Check out Gabe Judkins' ('03) improved GIS map (large format or small format) of the Arboretum.
• See a photo of the Geneseo Garden Club and others at the installation around our new sign (see a brief article in the college's ENCompass online magazine). The collection is made up of plants native to our upstate region. Please check it out!
• We have installed a memorial for the four alumni who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
  
• Daffodils blooming in April - a gift from Marjorie Harding in memory of her late husband Walter.
• BIG TREES in Geneseo. Project with SUNY Geneseo and Geneseo Central School
• A brand new natural history pamphlet, with twelve stops along our trails, is off to the printers! See the map and cover.

Other Features of the Roemer Arboretum

• Research from Arbo was published in the SUNY Geneseo Journal of Science and Mathematics. See work on our breeding birds by Pam McKernan & Gregg Hartvigsen and work on plant galls by Katie Weiss.
• Purple beech tree dedication (July 14, 2000), donated by the class of 1950, with lots of room to grow.

Summer Employees

Since the summer of 2000 we have hired a horticultural assistant to work in the Arboretum. The student earns a stipend and helps with various projects aimed at maintaining and developing our collections and exhibits in the Arboretum.
