Research
Hi! Great news for the Arboretum. We have funding from the Geneseo Foundation that is supporting many
students doing research. If you want to help by getting involved with this research or
want to help support research please contact us (see below)! The researchers are:
- Pam McKernan ('01): Mapping breeding bird territories (Spring
2000).
- Sarah Dagrosits & Simon Mc Caffery are developing an
ecology course for 4th + 5th graders (Spring 2000).
- Kristina Fanghanel is analyzing soil texture and soil
invertebrate diversity and abundance (Spring 2000).
- Jen Caito ('01):
Mapping the Roemer Arboretum using Geographical Position
System (GPS) satellite technology and Geographical Information Software (GIS) (1999-2000).
- Christian Chiarelli
('01): Analyzing the abundance and diversity of plants in the Arboretum. Christian's also
working on a virtual herbarium.
If you have a fast connection check out a nice scanned image of staghorn sumac (~1 MB) (Fall 1999).
- Maura Wixted ('01):
Competition of two plant species for soil resources in the Arboretum. Take a photo tour of the construction of this research site
(Fall 1999).

The projects also provide many
volunteer opportunities.
