Welcome to the
Spencer J. Roemer Arboretum
at the State University of New York, Geneseo
The Arboretum is a diverse, 20-acre parcel on the south side of the SUNY Geneseo campus. The Arboretum is open to the public during daylight hours and serves the public with recreational hiking experiences and the students of Geneseo as a living laboratory. Our main mission involves integrating research, education, and the appreciation of nature.
The Arboretum is used for teaching courses, such as Principles of Ecology.

We also use the Arbo for public walks. If you would like a guided tour please contact us (see bottom left). Here Dr. Hartvigsen is discussing the ecology of the Arboretum to a group of Alums.

The Gazebo is the central gathering spot throughout the year. It's a great place to picnic and enjoy a view of the Genesee Valley.

The Arboretum also is a living laboratory. Students participate in a wide variety of research activities. Some of the projects students design themselves while some students participate in various faculty research programs.
